Gutama Hawas Foundation Australia is a nonprofit supporting rural Oromia, Ethiopia, in partnership with its sister charity. We empower youth, children, and communities by providing opportunities that privileged individuals have. Our mission is to build schools, ensuring quality education in safe environments. In Oromia’s Gololcha village, schools are made of mud and lack resources, leaving many children, especially girls, without access to education. We aim to construct schools from KG to high school with ICT, sports, and development programs. Through partnerships, we plan to build schools and health centers for disadvantaged children, women, and youth.

About Founder
Biftu Hawas –
Biftu Hawas, born in Oromia, East Africa, is the daughter of Gutama Hawas and Halfiya Kemal. At 16, she migrated to Australia with the support of the Oromo community. She completed her high school and pursued tertiary education in International Community Development. Now a mother of three and a community development professional, Biftu founded the Gutama Hawas Foundation to continue her father’s legacy of freedom, equality, and access to basic human rights. Her mission is to uplift Oromo children and empower the Oromo people through education and sustainable development.
